Our client is a multi-disciplined building envelope contractor, able to take projects from an outline design concept through to a finished installation constructed to the highest standards. They work with the construction industry’s leading main contractors and high profile clients. Over time they have developed an impressive award-winning project portfolio. 

Main contractors are supported by the estimating department with the reliable return of detailed and accurate tenders. Additionally, the estimators contribute to the technical consultation service provided by the company by giving budget and value engineering advice where required.

Secured projects are managed either by permanently site-based managers or by visiting contract managers. Support services for the front line managers are provided from the Head Office by a dedicated team of document administrators, procurement managers, surveyors and ancillary staff.

The Health and Safety department reviews every project and produces risk assessments and method statements together with operation and maintenance documentation. The company accident record and the National Awards that this department regularly receives is evidence of the seriousness with which this aspect of our business is viewed by all personnel.

The collective experience of the two hundred and fifty tradesmen employed across the four companies is seen by our client as their most highly prized asset and is a major contributor to the successful execution of the work that the companies undertake.

 

Job Specification

To produce a collaborative design solution for each contract. This will be done by ensuring compliance to manufacturer’s recommendations and company procedures as well as the client’s requirements in line with current legalisation. You will be responsible for managing your own time to ensure timely delivery of drawing and material schedules.

The main duties of the role are as follows:

  • Prepare details, plans, sections and general arrangement drawings as required to enable approval, material procurement and installation constraints. For all aspects of roofing and cladding systems.

  • Become conversant with the Project Specification, Estimate and Enquiry drawings that form the basis of each order.

  • Be conversant with and apply the requirements of the Internal Q.A. procedures.

  • Liaise with members of the Design Team to source all necessary information.

  • Highlight any variations between enquiry drawings and construction issue drawings ensuring that any variations generated by the receipt of new information are highlighted.

  • Issue drawings and schedule materials as required suiting each specific site program ensuring all key dates given on programme are met.

  • Attend handover meetings to discuss the project, identify particular design areas needing attention and clarification of the scope of works.

  • Attend design meetings as required.

  • Prepare weekly progress report for each contract in accordance with programme.

  • Plan and co-ordinate the workload of other design staff assigned to your team.

  • Attend design team meetings and site meetings.

  • Examine as-built specifications and check drawings and update as necessary to comply with as built status.

  • Establish and manage sub-contract design packages such as syphonic, louvres, doors, mansafe systems etc.

  • Develop roof drainage solutions and source supporting calculations as required.

  • Liaise with independent structural engineers to identify technical calculation requirements &

    issue supporting data.

  • Check material schedules to assist other members of the team.

Personal Specification

You will have an HNC or equivalent, ideally in a design-related subject. Have experience as a draughtsperson or designer in a related sector of the industry.

You will be computer literate and competent using the latest editions of Word, Excel and Outlook, also proficient in AutoCAD. Experience of 3D software is desirable but not essential.

You will have high standards of numeracy, oral and written communication skills and be able to demonstrate a capability to organise and prioritise workloads effectively and on your own initiative.

You will be someone who takes ownership of their work and be able to represent the company's interests.

  • Flat roofing – Single Ply, Hot Melt, Cold applied & Felt

  • Traditional Hard metal – Fully supported roofing & cladding Inc shingles such as Copper, Zinc

    and lead.

  • Traditional Slating & Tiling both on timber & tile support substrates

  • Industrial roofing – Aluminium standing seam & composite panels

  • Industrial cladding – Composite panels, metal & terracotta rainscreens.
